Gold Rose Tarot

A down-to-earth exploration of the art of Tarot

Want a novel way to get acquainted with your cards, figure out your best ‘clairs’ and learn the Tarot all at the same time? Try this game and you might be surprised at the results!

You’re going to need an honest friend and your favourite deck(s) for this awesome card game.

I present to you: Intuitive Hide-n-Seek!

One of the many problems people have when learning the Tarot or trying to develop and get to know the natural intuitive gifts and tendencies is staying interested in exercises and repetitive practices and breaking themselves of ‘the book’. Coming from someone with the attention span of a squirrel due to being a Scanner, I totally feel your pain on both fronts and fun/interesting games and exercises (and simply doing, but I’ll get to that on another post) have helped greatly in speeding up the learning process for me, and hopefully it will for you as well.

For this game you’re going to need your favourite deck(s), a friend who doesn’t think you’re nuts, a pad of paper and a pen or your Tarot journal to record your impressions as well as your results.

To begin, decide upon the room you’re going to be working in and the cards you’re going to be using (the entire deck/suit(s)/Major, Minor, Courts). Take a moment to make sure you’re hydrated and take 10-15 minutes to meditate and visualise clearing out and opening up your chakras/awareness while your friend selects 2-4 cards to place about the room.

Now, the point of this exercise is not only to get an understanding of what type of impressions each card gives you, but to figure out which ‘clairs’ are the strongest in terms of how you receive intuitive information. In care you’re unfamiliar with these senses, I have provided a table below:

  • Clairvoyance - Clear seeing - Do you see colors? Signs and symbols? Visual pictures?
  • Clairaudience - Clear hearing - Do you hear music? Words? Particular sounds?
  • Clairsentience - Clear feeling - What emotions are you feeling? Sadness? Anger? Joy? Lust?
  • Clairgustance - Clear tasting - Do you have a particular taste in your mouth? Bitter, sweet, sour?
  • Claircognizance - Clear knowing - Did you just *know* what the card was, or where it’s hidden?
Ask the Universe to help you focus in the direction or towards the general area of where a card is hidden. Take a moment to relate your impressions to your friend including what you feel the card that is coming through is. It is very important that you try not to focus on being right but rather on being receptive and allowing yourself to follow ‘your gut’. Continue to do this until you’ve located all of your cards and compare your impressions to the more ‘traditional’ meanings of the cards to see how they match up. You’ll be surprised at how accurate you can get if you don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be perfect! You’ll also notice that your impressions of cards will differ from deck to deck, which is important to make mental note of when reading for yourself or for other people. As time goes on and this exercise becomes easier, you may want to switch things up by mixing cards from two or three decks together or expanding the number of rooms you’re working in. You can even incorporate other tools, like Runes, oracle decks, etc., into this exercise if you’re trying to master another system.
The first few times you may feel silly and maybe even a little frustrated, but simply playing and allowing information to come through uncensored will help you to figure out what is your conscious mind giving an opinion or formulating a hypothesis, and what is your intuition providing you with accurate information.
